Happenings in Bangkok

Checkinn99, on Sukhumvit Road between sois 5 and 7, will hold a Red Night next Saturday, June 15th, from 8 PM.  Apart from being an excuse for one of their theme parties, it is also co-owner Mook's birthday.  For those who haven't seen the nightly cabaret sets by the Filipina house band, they will be putting on a Mama Mia special set.  It should be a fun night! - http://www.stickmanbangkok.com/StickmanWeeklyColumn2013/Arsenal-Alex.htm

Tourist Family Safely Returned To Thailand After Harrowing Night On Soi 3

20surfacing600NANA – An American family of visiting tourists has been safely brought back to Thai soil after being lost for four hours in the lower Sukhumvit area, police reported yesterday.
The Waldens, comprising James, 43, his wife Meredith, 41, and their children Didi, 13, and Zachary, 9, were reported in healthy condition at Bumrungrad Hospital after an examination following their escape from the international territory known colloquially as “soi Arab.”
“It was the most frightening experience of our lives,” said a visibly shaken James. “One minute we’re in Thailand, enjoying our vacation, and then suddenly we’re in some other country full of Middle Eastern people, West Africans, and Indians. It was like something out of a bad science fiction movie.”
According to police, the Waldens accidental departure from Thailand began when they left their hotel, the Landmark, at 8pm to look for what they had been told was a good place for wood-fired pizza. Mistaking soi Loet Sin 2 for what they thought was soi 11, the family walked deep into a dark neighborhood of construction sites.
“Jim insisted we were on the right street but I knew something was wrong right away when we turned the corner and saw all those Indian restaurants,” said Meredith. “It just felt wrong.”
The family then wandered down soi 5 and attempted to enter Gullivers Pub, only to be pushed out by a brawl that was erupting between a drunken pack of British football fans and a hostile group of Israeli backpackers.
“I didn’t see any Thai people, anywhere,” noted Didi.
The Waldens then fled into the Nailert Foodland Plaza, where they became disoriented trying to find their way out again. Exiting a fire escape onto an alleyway, they then worked their way deeper into the warren of sub-sois that led to soi 3/1.
“Everyone around us was African,” said James. “We might as well have been in Africa. And I’ve never seen so many sandal shops in my life.”
After attempting in vain to find anyone who spoke either English or Thai, the Waldens spent 20 minutes working their way through a maze of leather stores, travel agencies, and sheesha pipe exporters, only to emerge on soi 3/1, where they were confronted by a bazaar of Middle Eastern and South Asian restaurants, women in burkhas, and men in robes and turbans.
“Poor Zach was so shocked that he just started shouting out ‘Terrorists! Terrorists!’” said Meredith. “We had to cover his mouth. It was embarrassing. Actually it was scary. People were staring at us, so I just grabbed the kids and went down the nearest alleyway.”
Emerging onto soi 3, the Waldens encountered “about 300” prostitutes of Middle Eastern and Russian origin, whose “huge asses” made it impossible to walk on the pavement towards Sukhumvit. Forced to go the other way, the family tried to ask for directions from one of the Thai vendors selling sex toys on the streetside.
“There were, like, a million vibrators and dildos,” recalled Didi. “That was like all they sold. It was gross.”
Unfortunately, every Thai vendor they encountered turned out to be deaf, and only gestured at the family using hand signs and large Casio calculators. Now completely terrified, the Waldens cut through an Ethiopian restaurant and fled into what appeared to be a large international hotel, the Grace.
“That was the worst place in the world,” said Meredith. “Like a nightmare, like a Twilight Zone episode. Every time we asked for directions it felt like we were interrupting an arms deal.”
The Waldens spent the next 90 minutes lost in the various areas within the Grace, including the bowling alley (“The balls weren’t even round”), the basement coffee shop (“The pit of hell”), and the mirrored casbah disco (“Men dancing with other men, but they were too ugly to be gay.”)
Around midnight the Waldens were finally rescued by a sympathetic transvestite named Pinki, who took them to the street, hailed a taxi, and instructed the driver how to get back to their hotel in Thailand. Once there, the hotel concierge noted their agitated state and called the hospital and the police.
The Waldens are expected to be released today, and have expressed optimism that they can complete their Thai holiday without incident. However, they have been warned to avoid the Nana area, as well as instructed not to enter the Thonglor area without first learning some basic Japanese. http://notthenation.com/2013/06/tourist-family-safely-returned-to-thailand-after-harrowing-night-on-soi-3/

10 Reasons to migrate to Thailand?

Thailand is an Amazing Country, Truly paradoxical. It gives you both pleasure and pain at the same time. Every country has its good and bad side, and depending on each person's narrow range of experience a stereotypical imagery is broadcast to one's circle of influence.

What is the first thing that comes to mind to a person of another country when you were to mention Thailand?

1. Sex industry
2. Massage
3. Cuisine
4. Scenic holiday spot

Well, not everyone comes for the same reason.  Reportedly, 23 Million visitors came to Thailand in 2012 and in the first three months of 2013, there were 6.8 visitors.

There are many categories of visitors to Thailand. Among them are :

Tourist
- Budget Backpackers
- Family groups
- Eco & Medical Tourism
- Social  (Adult activities)
Investors and business owners
Attendees of Conferences & Seminars
Government & Diplomatic
ExpatriateWorkers & Executives
Foreigners married to Thais
Retirement

You could summarise the reasons for visiting as:
1. Taking a break, holiday
2. Looking for entertainment
3. Looking for love
4. Looking for work
5. Part of work responsibility
6. Medical treatment
7. Retirement

What about foreigners who wish to migrate to Thailand ? What are their reasons or factors that influence their decision ?
Clearly, retiring in a warm, cost effective prospering third world country with many of the desired conveniences is by far not an unknown event and could apply to many countries aside from Thailand.

Some migrate in search of employment or came employed, loved the country or its women or men and decided to stay.

Others especially from America, Australia-NZ, Europe and even Japan, have found Thailand profoundly a better choice as they sought to leave bad marriages, lonely existences or feminist dominated societies at their homeland.

No doubt opinions that the standard of living is better in Thailand than it was in their homeland, is subjective.  While circumstances dictate their choices, it is said that the search of happiness is  ULTIMATELY the key to migrating to THAILAND.

But IF you are thinking about Thailand, let us give you reasons WHY you SHOULD migrate to Thailand:

1) Delicious Food and Range of Variety
You can find Thai food from USD 1 up to USD 1,000 per meal per person. Even in Sukhumvit at Soi 26, you can find a bowl of seafood noodles (Rad Na Talay) for a mere 35 Thai Baht ie less than USD 1.20.  Thailand especially major cities and islands such as Bangkok, Chiangmai, Pattaya, Phuket, KohSamui and Danok, have restaurants and hotels that offer Italian, French, Japanese, Russian, Spanish, British, Vietnamese, Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi/Nepali, Singaporean/Malaysian, Indonesian, Australian, Mexican, German, Dutch, Scandinavian, African, South American, Cajun, Chinese, Portuguese, etc.  End of the day, you can chose to eat at expensive international hotels, foreign restaurants, local restaurants, hawker stalls, fastfood joints, etc. Its just up to you to manage your money !

2) Nice Warm Weather
mid-November - February : Cool season
March - mid-June : Hot season with exciting Songkran water festival in April
mid-June - early-September : Fringe season
early-September - mid-November : Rainy season

3) Great location for holiday and stay
It’s Perfect for Travel
The Postcard Perfect Tropical Islands
The Lush Jungles
Cool Mountain areas

4) Living
In major cities you have an international Environment

5) Thailand is Convenient

6) People
The Friendly Locals who would go out to help you
The Beautiful People abound and accessible

7) It’s Cheap!
 Cost of Living
Can you survive or live well in Bangkok or rural Thailand on 30,000 baht a month? Depending on individual needs and lifestyles. The general answer is yes. This is how you do it :

Approximate conversion rates as of May 2013
30 baht to one US Dollar
50 baht to one Pound Sterling
Monthly budget in Thai Baht
a) Transportation 500 for gas for motorcycle bought for 20,000
b) Utility bills Roughly 1,800. 500 for water and electric, 850 for cell phone and internet, and 400 for laundry.
c) Food - both restaurants and supermarket shopping 8,000. 6,000 for restaurants and 2,000 at the supermarket.
d) Nightlife and drinking Roughly 6,000
e) Room rental in local apartment area at 3,500
Now, where do many foreign men go wrong in managing their money?
Easy :  INDULGENCE

If you fall in love with working women aka bar girls, agogo, prostitutes, freelancers, etc  THEN there is NO way ANYONE can STOP you from exhausting your FUNDS.

Pay for sex and female company. Why buy when you can rent ? The cost of hooking up with working women is that they chose this profession as means to support themselves, families, husbands/boyfriends.  They get hardened very quickly and influenced by peers, see customers as walking ATMs.

Therefore, to be happy in Thailand and to live cost effectively, you must live like a Thai male.  Which is, goto to pay for play venues for your sexual releases. But in the meantime, if in need of love, through introduction of your Thai male acquaintances at work or residence, get to know Thai women from good families and professions.

Lastly, any foreigner hooking up with women purely from tourist areas, will be hard pressed to find good women. This may include even the waitresses at restaurants.

8) Income tax rates in Thailand start off low
But if you are a big earner, they can get close to Western levels. As at early 2008, the tax rates were as follows:  Income in Thai baht Tax Rate
 0 - 150,000 0
150,000 - 500,000 10
500,000 - 1,000,000 20
1,000,000 - 4,000,000 30
4,000,000+ 37

9) Transportation is generally good
- BTS/Skytrain
- Subway/MRT
- Taxis
- Pickup trucks
- Buses
- Trains
- Rail
- River boats
- Motorcycle Taxis
- Rental cars, vans, motorbikes

10) You can operate your own businesses

So, there you are.  Ten excellent reason to migrate to Thailand.

Just don't forget to visit WII MASSAGE SHOP when you are in town !

Cheers
Winana Yongyut

Thuggish Phuket taxis targeted after 12 hotels complain

Thuggish Phuket taxis targeted after 12 hotels complain

PHUKET: A meeting of all concerned is to be convened in Karon later this month to attempt to address the problem of unpleasant – in some cases thuggish – behaviour by local taxi groups.

Tanyaluk Sakoot

Monday 3 June 2013, 06:16PM

By no means a new problem: In September 2011 three Kamala taxi drivers were arrested for taking an iron bar to an ‘invading’ car (pictured). The case was eventually settled out of court.
By no means a new problem: In September 2011 three Kamala taxi drivers were arrested for taking an iron bar to an ‘invading’ car (pictured). The case was eventually settled out of court.

Twelve hotels in Karon, Kata and Kamala have complained en masse to the Damrongtham Centre – twice – that they have been threatened by “Taxi Mafia” who sit at the entrances to the hotels and regard guests as their “property”.
The original complaint was lodged as long ago as December last year, and was reiterated on April 22, said Praphan Kanprasang, Chief of the Centre today (June 3).
The complaint came from six hotels in Karon, five in Kata and one in Kamala, acting in concert.
The hotels complained that taxi drivers:
  • Blocked hotel transportation and threaten the drivers of hotels limousines or minivans;
  • Tout their services aggressively to guests walking out of the hotels;
  • Use foul language when guests choose to hire a car from a rival group of taxis;
  • Block the entrance to the hotel to bar “invaders”;
  • Drag “invading” drivers from their vehicles;
  • Drag customer from taxis that do not belong to their group;
  • Follow guests who walk out of the hotels to meet with a tour guide or tour group who have come to pick them up;
  • Threaten tour businesses to extort money from them; and
  • Use guns and sticks to threaten tour company drivers.
An official at the Centre explained that the six-month wait for action was because of the complexity of the complaint, and the fact that it involved three areas of the island.
The chief investigator in Karon, Pol Lt Narong Laksanawimon has reported to the Centre that he and his men have already interviewed 15 businesses – hotels and tourism companies – that have had trouble from taxi drivers.
One hotel complained that local taxi drivers had set up a sales counter in front of the hotel and always stopped and checked cars coming to the hotel. This frightened hotel guests.
The hotel also told police that the taxi drivers shouted obscenities at guests when they checked prices of other taxi services.
The hotel staff, too, were abused by the taxi drivers to the point where the staff were terrified of them. The hotel begged the police to “find the right man” to fix these issues.
The Damrongtham Centre file shows that Phuket’s Police Chief, Maj Gen Choti Chavalviwat, reported back in January that he had met that month with five hotels in the Karon area.
He recommended that a special committee of all concerned officials should be convened as the problem might affect tourism in Karon, Kata and Kamala.
A committee – the members have not been made public – has since been formed and will meet later this month in Karon.
With the “low” season started, tourists are becoming more scarce, aggravating the situation.
Last months, taxi and tuk-tuk drivers so frightened tour counter operators near Dino Park that they closed down and went away.

Canadian man weds Roi Et woman, offers dowry worth THB100 million

Canadian man weds Roi Et woman, offers dowry worth THB100 million

By Coconuts BangkokJune 3, 2013 / 17:10 ICT
Roi Et residents are celebrating a story of Cinderella-like proportions: a wealthy Canadian man has married a Roi Et woman who was born to a farmer family, and provided her with a handsome dowry to boot.
Glen Redekop, a 54-year-old executive at Chevron Thailand and the owner of a petroleum company in Ireland, was in a relationship with Sunantha Singhathawat, 37, for nine years before making his marriage proposal. Redekop and Sunantha met in a Bangkok restaurant where Sunantha was working as a waitress. After agreeing to see each other, Redekop asked Sunantha to stop her waiting job and focus her attention on her education. With Redekop’s funding, Sunantha has spent the past nine years pursuing bachelor and master degrees. She is now at work on a PhD.

On their wedding day, Redekop handed over a dowry worth over THB100 million to 71-year-old Somboon Singhathawat, Sunantha’s mother. The wealth came in the form of gold bars, gold ornaments, a nine-karat diamond ring, THB1.7 million in cash, a 30-rai piece of land and six townhouses. Offering a dowry to a bride’s parents is a commonly accepted part of Thai culture, Sanook reported.

Thailand gets real with India

The Thai adores the Western civilisation. -- The Nation 2013-06-03 BANGKOK: -- Despite thousands of years of common history and culture, Thailand and India have not bonded in the modern world. Thailand has repeatedly glossed over the civilisation that inspired Southeast Asian countries and helped form their identities. The Thai adores the Western civilisation. Fortunately, though, India remains a land of pilgrimage for several hundreds of thousands of Thai Buddhists each year, tracing the legend of Buddhism. Last week, visiting Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh gave a great gift to Thailand - a sapling of the Maha Bodhi Tree - the tree under which Lord Buddha attained enlightenment. In January 2012, during her landmark visit to New Delhi as the Indian government's guest of honour for the country's Republic Day celebrations, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra urged the Indian side to upgrade their relations to a "strategic partnership". Since then, both countries have been working very hard to augment the newfound strategic values. Although Singh's visit was less than 20 hours long, both sides managed to produce a joint statement of nearly 3,000 words - one of the longest in the annals of Thailand's bilateral relations. The 41 paragraphs captured the whole spectrum of Thai-India relations with diplomatic niceties. In fact, there is more to these ancient relations than meets the eye. Both sides have their compatible strategies. India has pursued its "Look East" policy since 1992, immediately after the collapse of the former Soviet Union, as a tool to move closer to Asia, especially Asean, to increase trade and draw in investment. Thailand's "Look West" came only a decade ago, after losing the best opportunities to other Asean members. Bangkok's westward movement was not new and it was supposed to encompass the whole of West Asia, including Pakistan, Iran and even Turkey. But so far, India has been the focus. Back in 1977, Bangkok was instrumental in setting up BIMSTEC, which recently renamed itself under the original acronym as the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation. Both Thailand and India are the driving force of this grouping. Over the past three years, their ties have been reinvigorated as their leaders met frequently and additional schemes of cooperation were added reflecting shifts in priorities due to the new landscape in broader Asia. India has now singled out Thailand as a top strategic asset, ahead of Singapore. During the visit, both countries managed to increase bilateral cooperation to partake in regional schemes in terms of connectivity and maritime security areas. India has shown keen interest to invest in the Dawei Deep Seaport and its Special Economic Zone since it was conceived in 2003. But Thailand ignored India altogether for a long time, despite repeated overtures from the Indian government and private sector. The stumbling block was removed last week when Thailand officially invited India for the first time to invest in the money-starved mega-project. Now, the country can truly be a gateway for India and West Asia. Quite a few Indian companies, according to Indian Ambassador Anil Wadhwa, including Essar Group, have the capital and technical know-how to invest and participate in the deep seaport development. Essar is currently engaging in various projects to develop the seaport in Sittwe, in Myanmar's Rakhine state. The invitation to India came after Prime Minister Yingluck's recent visit to Tokyo when the fate of Dawei was discussed. For the time being, potential funders such as Japan, China and other Western countries have not yet made definite financial commitments, which requires as much as US$8.6 billion (Bt261.44 billion) investment during the first phase. The Thai government took over the project two years ago from Italian-Thai Development Co. Soon both countries have to sit together and identify deliverable projects linking India, Myanmar, Thailand and the rest of Asean. India has invited Thailand for a road show on its soil and urged potential Thai investors to join in the trilateral highway project to produce "seamless" connectivity between the three countries. The project is also part and parcel of a broader connectivity project. India is improving its national connectivity such as the proposed Delhi-Mumbai Corridor, which later on can be linked to the Mekong-India Economic Corridor and beyond. India contributes $1 million to the Jakarta-based Economic Research Institute of Asean and East Asia, which has already drawn up a comprehensive plan to boost Asean-India connectivity. Lest we forget the security aspect: In 1997, Thailand joined India as the second country in Asia to have its own aircraft carrier - Chakri Naruebet. After a few years in service, mainly in disaster relief and humanitarian operations, there were discussions for refurbishment of a weapons system by India in early 2000 but no progress was made. Since then, Chakri Nareubet has been retired and has become a mammoth museum piece in Chon Buri. However, with a nearly 1,000-kilometre common maritime border in the Andaman Sea, their navies continue to cooperate closely through joint naval exercises to help curb piracy and other forms of seaborne transnational crimes. Strengthening maritime security cooperation will be one of the top priorities. Both share common views that international sea-lanes must be freely accessed and safety guaranteed. India also has pledged to improve the capacity of Thailand's coast guards. When it comes down to people-to-people level, a lot more can be done. Now that an extradition treaty has been signed between the two countries, erasing India's longstanding security concerns, New Delhi can quickly free its stringent visa regime for Thai passport holders to increase tourism. Last year, more than 1.2 million Indians visited Thailand while only 120,000 Thais visited there. Indians can get visas on arrival at the point of entry in the country but Thais could not while Filipinos, Laotians, Vietnamese and Cambodians enjoy the privilege. The combined tourists from these countries visiting India were only one-fifth of the Thai visitors. Apart from tourists, many Thai students continue to choose India for overseas education with nearly 10,000 students studying there, including in elementary schools. With Thammasat University offering a BA course in Indian Studies this year, the first of its kind, interest in India among Thai students will certainly increase. While this linkage has been highlighted by the officials, other Indian popular culture is slowly making a comeback in Thailand. Indian films have returned to theatres after a two-decade absence and being confined to VDO rentals. Many Indian films are now being shot in Thailand. Indian garments are still in vogue. Tandoori chicken beat the Thai grilled version at shopping malls. Indian chai (milk tea) is more popular than ever with, of course, some Taiwanese variations. All said and done, Thailand and Thais still have to change their mindset when it comes to their overall perception of India. With more Indians visiting here, realistic and positive images of India are emerging, replacing past prejudices. Without acceleration and sustaining of this healthy trend, the joint statement signed last week will prove hollow. -- The Nation 2013-06-03

How to tell if your Thai girl friend is cheating you

Think your Thai girl may be cheating?

http://tipsthailand.com/is-your-thai-girl-cheating/

Trust can be a hard thing to achieve when it comes to long distance relationships.  Even harder when you’re involved with a Thai girl.  No doubt by now you’ve heard stories or read about Thai girls cheating and how they will often have several boyfriends or “sponsors” on the go at any given time.  The circumstances surrounding how and where you met may even add to your anxiety?  But your girl is different, isn’t she?  A lot of this is just common sense.  If something doesn’t feel right, then it probably isn’t.  Trust your instincts.  However, there are a few signs to look out for to help you make up your own mind

How to tell if your Thai girl is cheating.  A guide for “newbies”

How did you meet?
An easy starting point.  Think about where you met your Thai girl.  Was it in a bar?  Was she throwing herself at you and other farang?  Is she still working there?  Did she go home with you?  Now be totally honest with yourself.  Obviously you’re a “handsooom maaaaan”.  But are you really so special?  If you met under such circumstances, is there really anything to stop her doing the same thing every night of the week with another farang?
Maybe you met through an online dating site?  Were you communicating with other Thai girls, keeping your options open?  Well there’s a chance she is doing the exact the same thing.  If you have been to visit, what’s to say she hasn’t met, or is meeting up with other “options” when you’re not around?
Money vs Lifestyle
What type of job does your girl have?  Lets say for example she works in a bar, restaurant, hotel or the service industry.  Her salary is going to be “modest” to say the least.  Maybe 6000-7000thb per month? Add another thousand baht or two to that total for tips.  Lets say that this is her “legit” monthly salary and leave it at that for now.
Now lets take the amount she earns and compare that to her daily lifestyle.  Does she have the latest laptop or smartphone, which most Thai girls seem to have these days?  A decent smartphone alone will cost what, 15,000thb?  Plus whatever credit she puts on it.  Are her hands and arms dripping with gold jewellery?  Maybe she owns her own motorcycle?  How does she afford these things without some kind of help or support?  Could these things be gifts from other visiting farang?  Where does she live, alone or share with friends?  Her room rental alone would wipe out her entire monthly salary unless she is sharing.
If you have been with your Thai girl a while and are supporting her financially, maybe these things can be explained.  But are you sending enough?  If you’ve just met and your girl’s expenditure is far more than what she “legitimately” earns, then you have to ask yourself where the money is coming from?  The simple fact of the matter is this.  If you met your girl in a certain way, and in certain area’s of Thailand (Pattaya girls anyone?), then there is a good chance that she will have several ”sponsors” each sending money every month.  Lets say she has two or three guy’s each sending her 10k thb per month.  Add that to what legit salary she earns, plus maybe a little “freelance” money on the side.  That soon add’s up to quite a nice montly amount for anyone to live on in Thailand.
In her room
If you are a regular visitor to LOS, or have a trip coming up, there are some giveaways which you can look out for inside your Thai girls room.  The obvious one is photographs of her with other guys.  This will often be explained as an ex-boyfriend, or maybe she’ll say it’s the boyfriend of one of girls she shares her room with.
Other things to look out for are Western Union, or money transfer receipts.  If other guys are sending money to your Thai girl every month, then there will usually be some paperwork left lying around somewhere.  Foreign dictionaries/phrase books.  Sometimes several books in different languages are another good sign that she is communicating with other guys.  If she is living in a major tourist area then she will be meeting guys from all over the world.  Most common books will be English, German, French, Italian and Spanish.  There may also be note books left lying around with “rehearsed” loving or sweet sentences written out in Thai with the English translation.
Multiple telephones.  Does your girl carry two or more mobile phones around with her?  Maybe totally innocent.  But it is also common for girls to use several phone numbers for different boyfriends.  Is it difficult to contact her?  Does she sometimes go missing for days without any reasonable explanation?  Can it sometimes take her days before she will return a call?  Try calling her at different times of day and night (when she may be out on the town) rather than sticking to a particular call pattern.
Friends
Have you met any of your girls close friends?  What “type” of girl does she mix with?  If your girl is sharing a room with Thai bar girls then they will know all the tricks in the book, and will share experiences and excuses.  Money and jealousy is a huge motivator for Thai bar girls.  If her friends have a lot of money and are buying nice things, your girl will want the same.  Often they will do whatever it takes to keep up with their friends in order that they do not “lose face”.
Social Networking
As with most people these days, your Thai girl will almost certainly have a facebook account.  She may even have several under different names? Maybe she’ll use other social networking sites such as Hi5 which is popular in Thailand?  Just take a look at her friends list.  Is it full of farang guys and not many girls?  Are there often “romantic” or tell-tale comments posted on her wall?
I know quite a few people where facebook has lead to “issues” with their relationship.
Summary
As I said above, most of these things may be just common sense.  Some can easily be explained and will be totally innocent.  However, to most people, a combination of these things will make it totally obvious that something is going on.
Another thing to think about is this.  Do you have suspisions that your Thai girl may be cheating, but find yourself “justifying”, or dismissing those doubts simply because it’s easier than facing the truth?  People say love is blind, but so much so that you can’t see something which is totally obvious to others?
This post may seem like it’s aimed at a specific “type” of Thai girl. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to say that it’s only this “type” of Thai girl who will cheat.  But I think it’s a fair assumption to make that the majority of guys, or at least a large proportion of them, will have met their girl in a certain place.
That leaves the question of what to do, if and when you find out your girl is cheating?  Well that’s something that only you can decide for yourself.

How to tell if your Indonesian girl friend is cheating on you

10 Signs Your Indonesian Girl Is Cheating On You

By Marc, a teacher who lived 5 years in Jakarta:
 http://www.jakarta100bars.com/2010/04/10-signs-indonesian-girl-cheating.html

You are an expat living in Jakarta involved in a relationship with an Indonesian girl? Are you wondering how serious she is with you? We know that the bar scene in Indonesia is very adventurous, and though it is easy to meet a decent girl, you may also end up with someone whose only interest is to suck you dry.

Ayam, man-eaters, etc.. There are a lot of expressions to designate these girls but my favourite term is "Professional Girlfriend": Her job, the one activity that earns her revenue, is to be your girlfriend, or to make you believe she is. And they are great at it because they are pros.

There are some easy things to spot in her behaviour that will help you guess if she's faking the whole thing or not. I listed 10 of them and I hope they will help you realize if yours is on the game or not:

1) You met your girlfriend in a bar in Jakarta: To be honest, if it was a massage parlour, a club in Kota, a bar in Blok M, or a karaoke, there is a 99% chance she is a fake. All girls there will be after your money. Your only chance is that she was in such a place by accident, but that never really happens.

2) Your Indonesian girlfriend protects her phone in an abnormal manner. My ex (which I found out was cheating) was behaving very strangely with her phone: First, the screen was locked with a password. It meant that if she wanted to call someone, she had to type a password first... a real pain in the ass don't you think? Then, wherever she would go, she would always, always take her phone with her: In the toilet, in the shower, in the kitchen... She would never forget it, and if she did, she would come back in a hurry to get it, and she would ask me, worried: Did you take a look at my phone? Clearly, I understand the concept of privacy, but such behaviour is a clear indicator that your Indonesian girl is hiding something.

3) She, who once cheated, will cheat again. If you believe that, then you can ask her about the previous men she was dating. I remember my ex was very confuse about it: She was telling me about her Dutch guy with whom she had been for 3 years, her American guy she had dated for 2 and a half year, her German guy that she had loved for 4 years, etc. She was only 24, but she had had lots of relationships, and long ones. The secret for that, I discovered, was that all of them were dated during the same period of 3 years, at the same time. Don't expect a girl who did that kind of cheating to be nicer with you!

4) She lies all the time to you and to other people. The reason for that is simple: It's hard to be deceptive, and when someone's life is a lie, he cannot always find good excuses for everything. She cannot keep track of all the lies she is saying because it is not possible for a normal human being. Normal girls don't lie because they don't have to and if you indo girlfriend is lying to you; it means that she is not behaving normally. This is not something you want.
Be strict with her: First lie and she's out.

5) Another sign that can help you see if the girl you are dating is having multiple boyfriends: She refuses to talk to you about problems that make her mad/sad/depressed. Usually, she will say she has "problems at home", but don't take her word too seriously: Chances are she is angry because one of the expats she is dating stopped sending her money, or because she fought with her Indonesian guy.

6) When you meet your girlfriend's friends, you realize that all of them have a rich expat boyfriend, and most of them are cheating on him. When you talk about this to your girl, she demonstrates full support for her friends, and you even feel that she thinks it's normal. She will tell you that you are different, because your love is so special, etc.. Be smart and ask yourself if this is the kind of world you want to live in.

7) The sex part is tricky: It is very easy for a girl to fake orgasm, or at least pleasure. Also, it won't be difficult for her to make you believe she is attracted to you physically and that she enjoys having sex. I don't think you should put to much emphasis on it, but still, if you have the feeling that for her having sex with you is a chore, you are right to be suspicious. You may also see that she uses sex to get things from you or to make you forgive her. This is never a very good sign of a healthy relationship...

8) You feel in your gut that something is wrong. This is the most important sign of all. You feel that your Indonesian girl is not being faithful, for tons of reasons that adds up. You may be in love and you are doing everything you can to believe her lies, but it actually makes you feel down to think you can be that stupid. There are no reasons to feel ashamed because you love someone, even a bargirl/prostitute, but at one point, you need to protect yourself from your girlfriend because miracles don't happen: Trust your instinct, and make a courageous decision.

9) She is extremely jealous, and I mean jealous like crazy. She doesn't trust you one bit, and never gives you any freedom when you want to go out with your friends in bars or night clubs. Once again, it's not hard to understand her behaviour: How can you trust someone when you cannot be trusted?

10) She doesn't give a damn about you: She misses many of your calls, she does not reply to your emails, or she does not try to gain your trust... You feel you are giving her all the time but you don't get anything in return except sex once in a while (if she sees you're angry). This is not a normal relationship, stop listening to all her bullshit about love, and make an objective analysis of your relationship with her: Is this woman making you happy? What does she like about you exactly that other expats don't have? Do you feel that she values you?

Jakarta is a decadent city: Male expats cheat on their wife and they end up with local Indonesian women who cheat on them too. After 5 years leaving in Jakarta, I think I’ve heard 100 hundred of these stories. It is very common for anyone familiar with Jakarta nightlife. Prostitutes are not a precise category of the population like in Europe: Things are more complicated: In any given night club in Jakarta, you will meet many girls who will be ready to sleep with you without giving too much thought about whether they like you or not: You are an expat, presumably rich, and they know they may get what she wants later. Those “prostitutes” do not look like hookers: They are young, cute, and they seem so nice that it is hard to imagine what is behind their smiles: That doesn’t mean you should stop enjoying your time in Jakarta: If the sex with her is good and you are not emotionally attached, I say don't pay too much attention to it, but then protect yourself and do not fall in love. However, if you are looking for a serious partner, then do not tolerate a relationship based on mistrust and lies.

This is not an exhaustive list of all the signs that can exist showing your Indonesian girlfriend is cheating on you. If you have experienced or observed on other expat/bargirl couples some behaviours that could help other readers determine how sincere their relationship is, please feel free to share with us!
