Russian daredevil leaps off Mount Everest in wing suit

A Russian extreme sports star has marked the 60th anniversary of the conquest of Mount Everest by performing a record-breaking BASE jump from the world's highest peak. Earlier this month, Valery Rozov jumped from the north face of Everest at a height of 7,220-metres (23,687-feet) above sea level - the highest BASE jump ever completed. 'BASE' is an acronym that stands for the four categories of fixed objects from which one can jump: buildings, antennas, spans (bridges), and earth (cliffs). The 48-year-old daredevil spent more than two years preparing for the Everest jump, including a considerable amount of time and effort devoted to developing a special new wingsuit. Rozov and his team, which included four Sherpas as well as photographers and a camera crew, spent nearly three weeks in the Himalayas before the jump.
